Who we are
Backstop Web is a managed WordPress maintenance company. We help law firms and small businesses across the United States keep their WordPress websites updated, secure, and online. Our team operates from El Salvador and works with clients primarily in English, with bilingual support in Spanish.
This page explains what information we collect through backstopweb.com and through the WordPress maintenance work we do for clients, why we collect it, and how you can ask us to remove it.
Information we collect
We collect information in three ways:
Contact form submissions. When you fill out a form on this site, we collect what you type in: typically your name, email address, phone number, and message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry.
Analytics data. We use Google Analytics, installed through the MonsterInsights plugin, to understand how visitors use this site. This includes pages viewed, approximate location (city or region level, not a precise address), device and browser type, and the site that referred you here. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally.
Server logs. Our hosting infrastructure automatically records standard web server logs for every visit, including IP address, timestamp, requested page, and user agent. These logs exist mainly for security and troubleshooting, and are kept for a limited time before being rotated out.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses cookies set by Google Analytics (through MonsterInsights) to measure traffic and site performance. These cookies do not collect payment information and are not used for third-party advertising on this site. You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, or use a browser extension that opts you out of Google Analytics tracking. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from using the site or reaching us through a contact form.
How we handle client site credentials
Part of our work involves logging into client WordPress admin panels, hosting control panels, SFTP accounts, and databases. We treat these credentials as sensitive client data, not as our own:
• Credentials are stored in a password manager, not in plain text files, email, or chat messages.
• Only the team members actively working on a client’s site have access to that site’s credentials.
• We never reuse a client’s credentials across other clients or projects.
• When a client relationship ends, we remove our access (admin accounts, SFTP users, API keys) rather than leaving it in place indefinitely.
Third-party service providers
We rely on a small number of third-party services to run this site and our client work. This currently includes our web hosting provider, Google Analytics for site traffic data, and email delivery services for sending and receiving client communication. Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. We choose providers with a track record in the WordPress hosting and security space, and we do not sell or rent visitor or client data to anyone.
Data retention
Contact form submissions are kept only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry and, if you become a client, to maintain a record of that relationship. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings. Client site credentials are kept only for the duration of an active engagement and are removed when the engagement ends, as described above.
Your rights and how to request deletion
If you want to know what information we hold about you, or want us to delete contact information you have submitted through this site, email us and we will handle the request directly. We aim to respond to deletion requests within a reasonable time and confirm once it is complete. Because we are a small, hands-on team, requests are handled personally rather than through an automated system.
